Please tell us how did you remove the mountingplate from the old LCD? Or did you bought that new also?
I ordered a new LCD but there was no mountingplate with it.

I got my tools on Amazon, but if you can get a nice set of watch repair tools at a hardware store, make sure your philips-head is small enough and magnetized. The interior screws are tiny and hard to hold.

I have not shopped for back casing. Scratches are cosmetic issues, I would be hard pressed to dismantle the whole phone for that. There are so many custom cases, like thin snap-ons, that you can’t tell are cases. I would get one of those instead and not mess with taking it apart

Very helpful video! I just used this to clean my LCD screen. It was rather quick and easy following these steps. I have a 3GS, but its still practically the same.

I ordered the repair toolkit with the LCD on Amazon from Wireless finest. There are other places with the tools, too. Couple of pry tools, a screwdriver and a suction cup.

Very nice video, I broke my LCD a few days ago, ordered a replacement screen, included with tools (and a suction cup =P). Should be here by the new year, and this video has been VERY helpful. Thank you.

One question though, how do you remove the thin metal backplate from the LCD screen?

It takes a bit of prying to get the plate off, there are thin adhesive strips on the longer edges. Once you get it started it should come off.

How many screen layers are there on an Iphone 3g? i keep hearing about the digitizer and the LCD and the Glass and I have no clue whats what. Can someone please explain!

@nitrozero3 If I’m not mistaken, the digitizer is glued to the back of the glass (the part you touch when using the phone). The part that he’s changing is the LCD. Hope it helped!

Hello I just want to know is the lcd of the iphone 3g the same as the lcd of a iphone 3gs? Please reply thankyou!

Correct, there are three layers in total. From the top, it is glass, digitizer, then LCD. There are other videos online showing the glass and digitizer part. My video is specifically on the LCD.

Sorry, I don’t know for certain if the same parts will work in a 3Gs. You can inquire with the parts retailers, or search online for more information. Good luck.

make sure your ribbon cables are fully seated before you clip them. You have to hold them in place. Take your time they can slide out easily.
